2.5.1 GOTEACH VISION

By 2030, we empower all young people in GoTeach to attain employability skills to live an independent life

Employability in this context is defined as a set of achievements – skills, understandings, and mindsets – that makes young people more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy. This implies that young people are aware of their capabilities and develop skillful practices (including life-skills) to take informed choices and are able to successfully adapt to changing environments.

Improving employability by equipping young people with the skills and professional encounters needed to be prepared for the world of work

2.5.3 GOTEACH GOALS

As a longstanding partner to the United Nations, we support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The following SDGs are closely aligned with our GoTeach program:

• SDG4 I Quality Education
• SDG 8 I Decent Work and Economic Growth
• SDG 17 I Partnerships for the Goals

Our related GoTeach goals are defined as follows:

SDG 4 & 8: Enable children and youth to fulfill their potential by developing their mindsets, life skills, and capacity to reach their aspirations and connecting them to the world of work

SDG 17: Offer best practices and multi-stakeholder partnerships to scale solutions (collective impact approach).

GoTeach encourages multi-stakeholder partnerships with other companies that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise and technology. In 2017, SOS has launched the joint initiative YouthCan! in order to expand the support of Deutsche Post DHL Group to additional partners. Multi-stakeholder partnerships are crucial for GoTeach to thrive – the exchange of knowledge and experience locally and globally accelerates learning, ultimately benefiting the young people who participate as it thrives from the exchange of knowledge and experience from employees to the young people. Further to this, a partnership between the private and public sector is an important contribution to the continuous growth and collaboration to improve sustainability and development around the world. The goal we have set ourselves is so huge that we cannot make the vision a reality on our own. Initiatives like YouthCan! are probably the only way to achieve the GoTeach vision in cooperation with others by offering best practices and scaling solutions.

2.5.3.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

DPDHL’s STRATEGY 2025: Sustainability is at the heart of DPDHL‘s purpose. Everyday, DPDHL taps the unique power of global logistics to connect people and improve lives, thereby contributing to a better world for all. It’s DPDHL’s vision to be the world’s most sustainable logistics company. The Group’s mission is: Excellence. Simply delivered – along the three bottom-lines in a sustainable way.

DPDHL focuses its sustainability efforts on the three Cs: Climate, Community and Colleagues. “Community” stands for leveraging our core logistics capabilities and our people to drive sustainable social progress. GoTeach is one of the main Group-wide programs to drive social progress in the communities in which DPDHL operates through long-term, community-based partnerships and employee volunteering.

SOS Strategy 2030 – Empower Young People: Young people without parental care and those at risk of losing it are among the most vulnerable groups in our societies. They lack the support to successfully navigate in a disruptive, competitive world towards social and professional inclusion. External trends like high youth unemployment, the effects of climate change, forced displacement and high individualism add additional pressure and challenges on them. Youth empowerment is thus a strong pillar of SOS Children’s Villages Strategy 2030. Care leavers need the right skills to navigate their independent lives. Significant steps have been taken to develop employability skills, to strengthen education and to give young people a voice through advocacy. SOS Strategy 2030 acknowledges the need to build partnerships in these areas to achieve transformative change at a scale that cannot be achieve alone.

Teach For All’s 25 year vision: Every child is born with enormous potential. But around the world, hundreds of millions of children can only dream of realizing that potential, simply because of where they were born or how much their family earns. The obstacles they face -poverty, hunger, discrimination, trauma, and school systems that do not provide them with the education they need to thrive - are overwhelming. When millions of children aren’t learning, it affects us all - perpetuating poverty, dividing societies, and weakening economies.  The vision Teach For All is working toward is one in which all children have the opportunity to fulfill their potential - both to shape better futures for themselves and for the world they’ll inherit.
