Online / Virtual Engagement

In the sense of complementing face-to-face activities, virtual engagement is gaining higher importance for our menu of activities.

The world is turning more and more digitalized and different online-tools enable us to connect with the young people – and also stay engaged under challenging circumstances: especially the Covid-19 pandemic showed us the added value of different online tools.

By getting engaged with young people virtually, we further enable them to develop important technical skills. This ability to operate different means for virtual communication is also a huge benefit for their future competitiveness on the job market.

Different support-documents in regards to virutal engaement are available; access a full compilation of all documents here: List of Documents - Virtual Engagement.

In the following, we want to describe some dedicated platforms and tools used within GoTeach for virtual engagement:

YouthLinks is mainly hosted on Workplace – a private social network hosted by Facebook. This platform accessible via a computer, a laptop, tablet or smart phone allows young people to connect with corporate volunteers and SOS Staff to develop their employability prospects. The platform offers three main options:

  • Online Mentoring – The platform offers the opportunity to host one-to-one, and group mentoring session (video-chat function available). There is also prepared mentoring content available:
    • Who am I? (Self- awareness, personal & professional Awareness)
    • Getting a job? (Getting ready to apply for a job)
    • Other topics are in development currently

Each package consists out of 6-8 sessions, lasting between 60 to 90 minutes. Currently, they are available in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Further language-versions are in the making. Access the mentoring-content here.

  • Virtual courses – Skills training session recorded and posted on the Youthlinks for youth to access and learn from e.g. Budgeting; How to write a CV
  • Virtual community  - Engaging as teams (Mentors Team; Youth Engaging with each other; SOS Staff engaging with each other)

Volunteer Vision

Volunteer Vision – is a digital platform providing mentoring solutions that maximize collaborative learning, employee engagement and social impact.

Corporate volunteers serve as mentors. There are different sessions predefined, promoting skills development in regards of the employability aspects of mentees. For example, the following content is covered:

Young people gain valuable insights into how the Logistics industry works and meet colleagues with a range of different roles and career paths.) # Employees 2+  Time commitment 3-4 hours
  • Online quiz about DPDHL for students with i.e. kahoot, films about job/profiles. Creating different Quiz-session that could be played ether within the classes or virtual. 2 h preparation 1h to play.
