Workplace visit

As part of the pillar “Expose”, a workplace visit is an opportunity for individuals or groups to gain firsthand experience and insight into a specific workplace environment. As such, a workplace visit is a guided tour of the business premises, offering more detailed information on the various business environments (operational and office surroundings), the type of work and general everyday activities. It involves giving students the opportunity to visit a company and see first-hand how it functions on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, it offers an opportunity to interact with employees and ask questions.

Objectives:

The objective of this activity is for the student to gain not only insights into the organization’s operations and work environment but also into different functions and varieties of job roles. It also helps the student to connect with professionals and broaden its network. Finally, the student should gain motivation and inspiration to identify areas of interest.

Target audience:

Young people from vulnerable communities who are transitioning from school to the world of work.

Location:

The location could be the volunteer’s workplace but also depends on the students interest and learning need.

Duration:

A workplace visit can vary in length from a few hours to an entire workday.

Number of attendees:

A workplace visit is normally organized for a group of young people rather than a one-to-one visit.

Site visits to different business units of DHL or other companies are another example of very popular and useful activity within GoTeach. By visiting different departments, the youths gain an overview of the workplace and see which different jobs exist within a company. In addition, this activity allows the participants to find out how an international company works.

  • The students are split into small groups for an engaging and interactive tour of the site
  • Give the students the opportunity to meet colleagues with a variety of role If possible, run one of the teamwork and problem-solving activities (from the Toolkit) for the students
