5.1.1.1.1 Workplace visit
Site visits to different business units of DHL or other companies are another example of very popular and useful activity within GoTeach. By visiting different departments, the youths gain an overview of the workplace and see which different jobs exist within a company. In addition, this activity allows the participants to find out how an international company works.
Duration: 2-4 hours
Number of young people involved: Depending on number of departments which can be visited at the same time
Number of volunteers involved: 1-4
Place: DHL facilities/ other corporate site or online
How to set up a GoTeach Workplace visit
- SOS and DHL volunteers (or volunteers from other companies) define a date, general framework and must-see for the site visit
- Ideally, an ice-breaker energiser activity provided in the GoTeach Toolkit arouses the youths interest
- An introduction and overview of DHL, the site and customers helps to understand things better
- The students are split into small groups for an engaging and interactive tour of the site
- Give the students the opportunity to meet colleagues with a variety of role If possible, run one of the teamwork and problem-solving activities (from the Toolkit) for the students
“I learned not to wait for perfect conditions, I must keep on moving, pushing to the next level"
- Anonymous GoTeach participant on what they learned
