Planning

Introduction

Planning definition:

“Planning is the systematic process of establishing a need and then working out the best way to meet the need, within a strategic framework that enables you to identify priorities and determines your operational principles.”

In the context of GoTeach planning, one of our first steps would be to establish the needs of the children, young people, fellows, migrants we work with to find how we could best address the needs with the skills and expertise of our volunteers and outlining a method, timeframe and team to implement the activities.

This chapter aims to create an understanding of the process of planning for GoTeach activities across the SOS Children’s Villages [1]and Teach for All partnerships and within the various GoTeach engagement areas (UK foundations, Refugee programme).

7.1 Out of scope

From the GoTeach Framework:

Based on the GoTeach Framework, our mission is to improve the employability of young people and children who are from socio- economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

GoTeach Activities

– List of activity examples (Link)

Activity definition

- Engagement with children, young people, fellows and DHL employees (e.g Site visit, Training sessions, Mentoring, Internship, Job Shadowing, Career Fairs)

Or

-Where young people are being empowered through skills training to enable their improved prospects for employability. E.g. Driver / Truck driver training/ Forklift driver training / Learnership - opportunities to do learning (Skills training), on the job learning and exposure to the work environment and mentoring combined (possibly facilitated by a partner in collaboration with DHL)

Out of Scope for GoTeach:

Activities that do not align to the improved employability of young people directly.  These items could be requested from the local business for consideration outside of GoTeach budgets and activities, if the local teams are able to assist.

• Additional financial donations of the local DHL organization to national Teach For All/SOS partners (e.g. General fundraiser not linked directly to youth employability and not enabling GoTeach activities or improving the employability of youth )

• In-kind donations that do not involve any volunteering activity (e.g. donation of DHL services,  installation of school infrastructure by external company – these do not align with improving the employability of youth)

• Virtual engagements not compliant with the Code of Conduct/ Safeguarding rules (One on One engagements via digital platforms not compliant with the safeguarding regulation for our partner organizations)

• Events that do not support the GoTeach vision to improve employability skills

• Costs that are not in line with formal company rules and regulations, e.g. travel policy

Please keep in contact with the GoTeach team should you need clarity or wish to propose different ideas to improve employability:

• If you are in doubt, please ask!

• If you have a really good idea how to improve employability skills but the estimated costs are higher than the co-financing budget, please ask as well!
