3.6.1 GoTeach Goes Above and Beyond
3.6.1.1 The impact GoTeach has goes beyond the direct support afforded to young people - it reaches out across the community.
Educators:
DHL Group volunteers support educators in many different ways, such as through mentoring and coaching, helping them prepare for their professional careers, and visiting schools and classrooms to offer support. In Mexico, for example, DHL Mexico employees led virtual sessions for (second year) teachers and alumni providing advice on how to maximize their job search.
Students
Students benefit in may ways from the time, experience and skills shared by DHL Group volunteers. In Spain, for example, volunteers from local DHL offices went into classrooms to share their workplace knowledge and skills as part of a GoTeach initiative. DHL Group volunteers took part in a school workshop designed to help students to identify their strengths, abilities, as well as potential career paths. To find out more watch the video here.
The DHL Express India office hosted a computer session for 30 students from three classrooms supported by Teach For All's partner organization Teach For India. The sessions focused on computer basics such as how to use the internet and Microsoft Office.
Partner organization and school staff
Volunteering activities also benefit schools and communities as a whole. DHL Bangladesh senior management, for example, carried out tree planting activities in two government primary schools in the Mirpur area of Dhaka in collaboration with Teach For All's partner organization Teach For Bangladesh, alongside teachers, students, and staff.
Volunteers have also mobilized their resources to provide support in emergency situations. Following the devastating earthquake which struck Nepal in 2015, Deutsche Post DHL Group and Teach For All's partner organization Teach First Deutschland organized a donation drive in aid of Teach For All's partner organization Teach For Nepal to support its efforts to rebuild a safe and effective learning environment for its students out of the rubble.
Families
Families also engage with volunteers. For example, more than 100 DHL Ecuador volunteers, family members, and school family members joined together on Global Volunteer Day to revamp a rural school that had been affected by the erruption of Cotopaxi in Machachi. The event helped improved the infrastructure of the children’s learning environment at the school, which has links to Teach For All's partner organization Enseña Ecuador. Seven computers were also donated to the school.
