10.3.1 Regional and Local Collaboration

10.3.1.1 How to create a contact list

The GoTeach contact list consists of all the people who are involved with GoTeach in each country and region and on a global level. It also outlines their responsibilities or roles in GoTeach.

The creation of contact lists or records is not standardized across the partnerships, however, information is made available online for all organizations within GoTeach should they require.

If you want to start GoTeach in your country, you may want to talk to the Country Manager of your local DHL Business Unit(s), who will help you to choose two or more coordinators who will then be the responsible for planning, implementation and reporting of empoyability activities. Ideally, the person/people selected should have the following qualities:

  • Able to juggle their work and that of coordinating a team
  • Love volunteering especially with young people
  • Self-driven and able to motivate others to volunteer as well

Regional Contacts from Teach For All and SOS Children’s Villages

The National Director at SOS Children’s Villages would be a great contact person since they can help you identify the best-suited SOS staff to coordinate GoTeach.

In most countries, the person or people chosen to drive GoTeach from the SOS side are usually already working directly with young people. Some of these people include Child and Youth Development Coordinators (CYDCs) and Counselors. However, coordinators need not be youth coordinators - as long as a person exhibits the above mentioned qualities, they are eligible to become a coordinator.

At national Teach For All organizations, the CEO would also be great to help choose coordinators from Teach for All who also exhibit the above qualities.

Having the following in your contact list for GoTeach in your country is very advantageous:

  • A point of contact in HR. They are aware of internship opportunities and have contacts inside and outside DHL that can be very helpful. They also have a clear idea of the abilities of the entire team, which makes them well placed to help mobilize people for activities
  • A point of contact in Finance (both from DHL/SOS Children’s Villages). They can help with finance mobilization for GoTeach activities. They can also help educate the GoTeach team (from DHL, SOS Children’s Villages, Teach for All) about procedures needed to secure finances for activities. They are the best person to hold a session on finances for the young people.
  • If they are not the actual coordinator, it would be great to have the SOS Children’s Villages Program Coordinator on board. They have access to the young people and are already actively involved in programs

Note: Other members of the team are of course also very valuable. Indeed, the above provides useful orientation but the full contact list of GoTeach is available via this link.
